Ingredients:
-
1 cup Chemba Puttu Podi
-
Water (as needed)
-
Salt to taste
-
Grated coconut (for layering)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Flour:
In a large bowl, add 1 cup of Chemba Puttu Podi and a pinch of salt. Sprinkle water little by little and mix using your fingers. -
Moisture Level:
The mixture should be moist and crumbly—when pressed in your palm, it should hold shape and then break easily. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes. -
Layering in the Puttu Maker:
In a puttu kutti (puttu steamer), add 1 tablespoon grated coconut at the bottom, then add 2–3 tablespoons of prepared flour. Alternate layers of coconut and flour until full. -
Steam:
Attach to pressure cooker or steamer base and steam for 5–7 minutes, or until the steam escapes through the top and the puttu is cooked. -
Serve Hot:
Best served with kadala curry (black chickpea curry), ripe bananas, or ghee and sugar.
